BOLDFest - Bold Old(er) Lesbians and Dykes, Vancouver, BC

Saturday October 12, 2019 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm  $31.50 per person*

The REALLY GAY HISTORY TOUR covers a broad spectrum of LGBTQ2+ history in Vancouver. It explores the differences between the early history of gay men and lesbians, and the different ways queer men and women were persecuted by legal authorities. After delving into the old gay haunts of Granville and Seymour, we pause to read the love letters of a bisexual woman who lived in Vancouver between the 1930's and 50's.  We discuss the first lesbian bar in Vancouver to be owned and operated by lesbians, and visit the first site of Little Sister's bookstore. We explore the emergence of the Davie Street village, and the simultaneous growth of the lesbian village in the Grandview Woodland neighbourhood.  Touching on every letter of the LGBTQ2 spectrum, this three hour walk celebrates both the diversity and the unity of the queer community, and it's colourful and dramatic history.
